5 Tips on How to Prepare for a Beauty Pageant

By Tracey Anne De Jesus

Everyone has the desire to be successful, to win in life. But it is through preparation that will lead you to success. Understanding what it takes to achieve those results will bring you one step closer towards your goal.

During the preparation process of my pageant experience, I have learned not only the importance of reaching for excellence but have gained a better understanding of self-awareness and confidence, which are one of the most powerful attributes one can hold. Here are some of my personal tips that I would like to share to you not only I carry forward in my life but has helped me during my pageant experiences

  1. Believe in Yourself

Believing in yourself means: “I CAN DO IT!” If you believe in yourself then everything is possible, everything is doable, and everything is achievable! YOU and ONLY YOU have the power to control your attitude. If you don’t trust your own capabilities, then no one else will. Being confident in your God given gifts is the key to your success and it will show in your performance.

  1. Practice Self Discipline

Taking care of your physical wellbeing plays a major role in the success of a beauty pageant. Preparation for a competition is hard work and requires lots of training, which can lead to exhaustion. Your performance on stage won’t be as great if your body and mind doesn’t have the energy to function. Incorporating healthy habits such as exercise, nutrition, sleep and engaging in stress reducing activities on a daily basis will help improve your physical and mental performance and prevent you from being sick. Drinking lots of water is also highly advisable! Water will not only make your skin glow but also keep you energized and hydrated throughout the day. Judges will see how well you take care of yourself so it’s best to keep your health a top priority in your life!

  1. Strive for Greatness

Ask yourself, what are my strengths and weaknesses? What areas do I need to focus on? What do I need to do to better myself? Success takes time, patience and hard work. This is where months of training come into place. Preparing for a competition does take a lot of work and in order for you to be successful you need to work for it! Whether it be spending hours at the gym, practicing your chosen talent, public speaking, walk, posture and so on, my best advice to you is to strive for greatness! Continually work on yourself as best as you can until you feel you are comfortable enough to present yourself.

Studying how others have won in the past, examining the qualities of the winner and incorporating them into your preparation is definitely a key to understanding how to best succeed in a pageant.

  1. Know Yourself

Identify what your personal values are and be clear with them. Take some time to think about who you are and what you believe in and what is important to you. Knowing your values is an important part of who you are and is something that you will carry along upon pursuing your life goals. When we enter a competition, our mind is set to “win” but if we think about it closely, we need to ask ourselves: what does it take to win? Creating a list of the things you feel that is important for you to be successful is a list of your values, and these values will help build your confidence by guiding you to become a better decision maker in your life. You will become more aware of what you want and what kind of person you want to be.

  1. Have Fun

Having fun is the simplest act to do yet it can be easily forgotten due to the pressures of what a competition holds. Adhering to the expectations and standards of a competition can be quite stressful and that’s okay! We are just human and it’s natural for us to feel that way. But what you need to remember is to always have fun! Enjoying the experience will make others see who you are: happy and confident! And this will make you shine from the rest.

Keep in mind that no matter what the result is at the end of your competition, the journey of your preparation is your reward. The months of preparation you put yourself through will be a reflection of how you have grown as a person and become who you are today: an improved version of yourself. Looking back and realizing how much you have changed will be the most rewarding part of it all and it is something that no one can take away from you!
