10 Quotes Every FilCan Employee Should Know

By Abel Pagaling

It’s safe to assume that the majority of us work for someone. If also safe to assume that many of us work full time, which means during the weekdays, a big portion of our time is spent working. I will also assume that most of us will be working until we retire in our 60’s or so.

That’s a considerable amount of our most productive years being an employee.

If this is the case, wouldn’t we want to make sure that each hour we spend being an employee is an hour we can be proud of? Don’t we all want to look back when we retire and say, “I give it my best every day!” with no regrets about the years you have worked?

Here are ten quotes to think about when you go to work to help put things into perspective:

  1. “Amateurs sit and wait for inspiration, the rest of us just get up and go to work.”

– Stephen King

Don’t be an amateur when you’re at work. Motivate yourself to do your best work. Work because you want to, not because you have to.

  1. “In a hierarchy, every employee tends to rise to his level of incompetence.”

-Laurence J. Peter

If you want to move up a level, you must show you are ready for it.

  1. “If you are only doing what you are getting paid for, and doing it no better than the average employee, then your pay is most likely right where it should be.”

-Bo Bennett

If you want to get paid more, then be more than you currently are. How are you making yourself more valuable to your company?

  1. “To make money I picked up work as a busboy, valet parker, skateboard shop employee.”

-David Spade

Do what it takes to achieve your goal. No job is too big or too small.

  1. “Somebody once said that in looking for people to hire, you look for three qualities: integrity, intelligence, and energy. And if you don’t have the first, the other two will kill you. You think about it; it’s true. If you hire somebody without [integrity], you really want them to be dumb and lazy.”

-Warren Buffet

Key words: Integrity, Intelligence, and Energy

  1. “Resources are hired to give results, not reasons.”

-Amit Kalantri

You get paid to deliver results, not to give excuses why you can’t deliver.

  1. “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then is not an act, but a habit.”

– Aristotle

Develop good habits in the workplace.

  1. “Dispirited, unmotivated, unappreciated workers cannot compete in a highly competitive world.”

– Francis Hesselbein, Hesselbein on Leadership

Keep your motivation up. No one else can do this for you.

  1. “The only way to do great work is to love what you do.”

– Steve Jobs

I don’t need to comment on this one.

  1. “Throw yourself into some work you believe in with all you heart, live for it, die for it, and you will find happiness that you had thought could never be yours.”

– Dale Carnegie

Passion and loving your work is how you will truly shine in your workplace.
