I’ve always dreamt to have a flat tummy but had a hard time getting rid of those stubborn love handles. I thought I had to constantly do sit-ups or buy some kind of expensive machine, tried all of these things, and found out it doesn’t work.
Then I wondered, “Is there a shortcut to having a flat toned tummy?” I realized there are no shortcuts. There are 5 Ways that can help you lose those belly fats and work towards a flat toned tummy.
- Change it up. Go for complex carbohydrates.
I didn’t understand what this meant before but now I learnt there are two types of carbohydrates, simple and complex carbohydrates. As a Filipino, I love white rice. Especially the fried rice my father cooks every weekend. Yes you can still eat rice but start changing the fried rice with some brown rice or wild rice couple days a week.
Let’s say you used to cook 2 cups of white rice, then why don’t you change it to 1 cup of white rice and 1 cup of brown rice.
You can also try swapping the type bread you eat. Instead of always buying white bread, try some whole wheat bread. Some other amazing foods you can try are couscous, quinoa, sweet potatoes and brown pasta.
Why Complex carbs? In short your tummy will be full longer, because it takes longer to process.
- Choose high protein and fiber. While keeping it low calorie.
Studies have shown when you eat foods that are high in protein they will help boost your metabolism while maintaining your muscle mass.
You start your weight loss journey by cutting back on your food but ensure that you eat the right amount of protein, fats and carbohydrates. Otherwise your body go starve mode and you will not get the best results it needs.
Another problem most people have when they eat less calories is not feeling full. By choosing the right amount protein and fiber; and instead of simple carbohydrates choose the complex carbs, this will change how you burn calories and how hungry you are throughout the day.
Example of Protein Sources: Chicken, Turkey, Fish, Beef…etc.
Sources of Fiber: Bananas, Edamame, Green Peas…etc.
- Cleanse your fat away. Say goodbye to your toxins.
Because of our surroundings, the commercial products we used, the food we eat, we cannot avoid the toxins coming into our body. However we can lessen the toxins through proper nutrition and exercise.
One of my favorite ways to get rid of the toxins in my body is through nutritional cleansing. Imagine your car running on the same oil, if the oil doesn’t get changed your car starts having engine problems. Your body needs to get its own “oil change”.
Studies show intermittent fasting or cleansing is more effective for weight loss than cutting calories alone. I tried different cleansing systems but most of them have left me feeling depleted, tired. Until I found out about nutrional cleansing. I love nutrional Cleanse Days because it allows your body to burn fat and release fat-stored toxins. It also reset your food cravings while preserving lean muscle.
- Crave the “Good Fats.” Crush the Bad Fats.
I thought all Fats are bad? Let’s vow not to eat fats at all. Pinky promise?? Haha! Is that realistic? Doable? Mmmm… No its not!
Actually we need fats in our diet! In fact, we can’t live without them. It’s essential for our overall health. Choose to eat good fats instead of bad fats.
The “Bad fats” includes saturated and trans fats. Some examples are like chicken skin, deep fried foods, fatty meats, fast foods, cheese, baked goods, ice creams, etc.
The “Good fats” include monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. These include most veggies and seed oils (sunflower, corn), avocados, salmon, tuna, most nuts (almonds, walnuts, pistachios), egg yolk, etc.
- Cardio HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training). Get your heart pumping.
I never liked exercise before because I got so tired and lost my breath easily. Since I was young, I was no good at any sports at all.
But when I finally started understanding the benefits of getting your heart pumping and your body sweats. Your body releases toxins, you start building leaner muscles. I really like High Intensity Interval Training.
The most fun and effective ways I find to lose belly fat is to do cardio using HIIT training (20-30 minutes) because this helps you increase your metabolism, thus helping you burn fat faster.
One example of HIIT Training: Warm up 3-5 minutes steady pace, 30 second sprint, 3 minutes jog, 30 second sprint, 1 minute walk and Repeat them 3x.
Be sure to check with your physician before changing your diet and starting new workout routines.
That’s it! Those are only a few of the many secrets you can easily implement right now in your life so you can have your dream flat abs 😉 It may take a bit to get started, but don’t give up. Imagine those abs, and that healthier body of yours. Don’t ever give up. I believe in you!
